JUNE 10th: Get Buzzed & Music Wasted with Adjective, Sex With Strangers, & Petroleum By-Product!

Special Thanks to Music Waste for inviting The Beehive to take part in a week of amazing Vancouver sounds. Here’s a collaboration we’d love you to take part in, so please come out this Wednesday, no excuses. 3 incredible bands, 5 regular bucks, unlimited funtastic times!

Adjective: I mean, I’ve made it pretty obvious that my obsession with this band has grown in exponential rates since first seeing them. Since my last review of Adjective in The Skinny, I’ve travelled Europe with their button on my jacket, gotten a second copy of their EP, I’m Sorry For Your Loss, so as not to have to carry it between work and home, and have made sure to keep a stack of Georgia Straights handy for purposes both innocent and maybe…lets not go there. Their post-punk gloom is nearly as dark as their rehearsal space, where their brilliant tunes begin their dwelling. Sure sure, the dude from Wire helped in the recording process but he ain’t got nothing to do with how incredible this band is live. Dare I say, don’t miss out!

Sex With Strangers: Once upon a time (not so long ago) Spin Magazine called this band one of ”7 Undiscovered Bands Worth a Listen.” So lets lay this out really simple ok? The band is called Sex With Strangers, that’s pretty cool. Spin Magazine is stoked on them, that’s pretty cool. And they play robot-rock, pretty much creating perpetual movement and laughter on the dance floor, that’s also pretty cool. I’m pretty sure they write their lyrics in binary code. Help translate the digits to some dance moves, it’ll be…pretty cool!

Petroleum By-Product: Sometimes bands get so caught up in trying to be like the real thing, that they miss the mark with their music which consequently results with them looking like idiots. On the contrary, Petroleum By-Product are writing songs with names like “Rat Face” and channeling a punk rock sound that 35 year olds still haven’t figured out. Now, I hate to break it to ‘em, but guess what? Stuff this good only comes inherently, and these kids have got it. Take that & shove it in your rat face. Awesome.
